Shopping on Facebook
Problem:
In 2018 Facebook faced increased scrutiny for its practices surrounding user tracking. As a result, the company began losing the ability to connect, or attribute, the viewing/impression of an ad on Facebook to the later purchasing of that product offsite. This project solved that problem by bringing the purchase/shopping experience directly into the Facebook app.
Goal:
User: Encourage the purchase of products directly on the Facebook app – without having to leave the app – by meeting user needs for an e-commerce shopping experience. Specifically, this meant the design of product-detail pages, customer reviews, cross-selling opportunities, checkout, payments, order history, receipt management, and shipping updates.

Meta: Create a successful e-commerce platform that builds on the efficacy of Facebook ads.
Solution:
Design a purchase and checkout flow that integrates into the existing Facebook ads experience. Design features that are tablestakes for an e-commerce experience and lead to increased purchase activity, for example, ratings and reviews.

Results:

This was an initial test and proof of concept for shopping on Facebook. Three years later Facebook would launch an entire shopping ecosystem on the shopping tab.
